I spent the last two weeks at Pennsic. While I was there I camped in my 16 foot round canvas tent, sleeping on a queen size bed, so don’t feel that I was roughing it too bad. I had to put clothes on to go to the bathroom, which was a bummer at 6am, but we at least had hot showers.
I finally got home today, expecting air conditioning, a hot shower, and perhaps some home cooked food. Sadly those hopes were dashed when we discovered that in the aftermath of a power outage two weeks ago our house electricity was messed up. The 110V current worked fine. The 220V that powers the stove, AC and refrigerator was out. We lost about $400 worth of meat in the freezer.
Progress Energy sent out a tech, who immediately diagnosed the problem, and went to get help. He returned with a helper and a power cable. We are currently tied in to the electricity at our neighbor’s house, with the biggest extension cord I’ve seen since I left the Navy. The AC still hasn’t caught up. But at least, only 4 hours after we discovered the problem, they have fixed it. The digging crew will be around in the next 2 weeks to dig up the broken power cable and repair it.
Still, the loss of all that good meat (plus everything else in the fridge and freezer) hurts.

Hey there - Glad you're back! Too bad about all that meat - I hope the smell didn't knock you over.
ReplyDeleteOuch, hate to lose meat like that! Something similar happened to a friend once, but with a freezer full of halibut. Talk about stench!
ReplyDeleteLuckily all the meat was well sealed from the butcher, so the smell wasn't all that bad.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home shipmate, sorry about your loss.
