Here’s a simple way to understand Liberals.
Given:
1. They are smarter than you.
2. They are more compassionate than you.
3. You are too stupid to decide for yourself.
Conclusion: You should shut up and do what you are told by smart compassionate liberals like them otherwise it will be the Dark Night of Fascism™
The war against your right to Keep and Bear Arms is just a small part of this battle. They have to disarm you so that eventually they can force you to comply. Your continued resistance to the idea that they should be in charge is simply evidence of your fascist tendencies.
Never mind that those who want an all powerful totalitarian super-state are the ones telling you to stop being a fascist.

You're right, great article. A couple of points, though. It's empirically sound to be skeptical of any scientific theory, including Darwinism because it has flaws and is open to interpretation. However, the movement to include Creationism and "Intelligent design" in school curriculum, is ludicrous, because both theories are based on 'bad science.' Scientifically speaking, Darwinism should be presented broadly, SHOWING ITS OWN potential for conflicting interpretations. As a theory that has a great deal of scientific strength, it shouldn't be compared to theories that have none.
ReplyDeleteAlso, while I agree overall with the article, I'm disappointed by how narrowly it misses the mark. This should not be an issue of Liberalism vs. Conservatism; both ideologies have strong points, and both ideologies are dangerous when taken to extremes. All the name-calling and analysis of ideology is NOT productive to anybody except those in power. It distracts us from the real problem: ALL career politicians and the leaders of BOTH parties have a vested interest in keeping the government massive and unwieldy, essentially un-reformable. While I agree with the desire to get the liberals out of power, I pity the naive conservatives who think that the Republican Party-approved leaders will do a damn thing make this country strong again. No matter which "causes" they espouse, they are Big-Government-Liberals, just like the Democrats.
A few example of republican liberalism: the drug war and the prison-industrial complex. The war in Afghanistan, interrupted by the war in Iraq, and therefore now likely to be lost (by the nation, not by the contractors and politicians, who are winning big time.) The war on terror and the hyper-militarization and nationalization of local police forces.
I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for linking this article; it really is a good illustration of the subtle (and not so subtle) hypocrisy of liberal extremism.
