This one is the usual sordid story. Felon apparently jumps bail, and the bail bondsman comes to collect him.
It was about 10:30 p.m. when Russell Morrison, no age available, a bondsman, went to the apartment, [Laurinburg Police Captain] Monroe said.
Both men were taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital, and transferred to other facilities, Monroe said.
That’s pretty nasty, but that’s not the real story here. A felon with a gun, shooting someone trying to arrest them is pretty commonplace. Sad, sick, and depraved, but commonplace.
What I want you to look at is the suspect’s prior conviction record. Scroll down and read it all. He got his start in the criminal justice system by dognapping, in 1996. Right there they should have executed him, but for some reason the State doesn’t consider Larceny of Dogs to be a capital offense. A man (and I use the term very loosely here) who steals another man’s dog can never be redeemed.
Keep reading upwards until you get to his latest conviction and sentence. He was convicted 12-08-2008 of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. His reward for violating the Federal law barring felons from possessing firearms? About 9 months in State prison. And he was such a dickhead in jail that they had to put him in disciplinary segregation.

Don’t be more of an ass than me. Your words, though they are on my blog, are your own. I didn’t write them. If they are stupid, ill considered, or bigoted, it’s your problem.
Criminal threats will be reported to the appropriate authorities for the appropriate action.
