Have you ever heard of the Pittman-Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act? You should know about it because every time you buy a gun or ammunition you pay for it. There is a 10 percent excise tax on handguns and an 11 percent tax on other firearms, ammunition, and archery equipment. That rakes in a lot of money every year that is mostly spent on hunting. So all you guys like me who are primarily buying guns and ammo for competition and self defense are subsidizing the hunters and not getting a whole lot in return.
John Richardson of No Lawyers- Only Guns and Money lets us know that this might change really soon. A bill has been introduced to ensure a fair amount of that money we pay in excise taxes gets allocated to public shooting ranges. Have you noticed that it is difficult to find a decent shooting range, especially a decent outdoor range? Well this would change it. More money allocated to cleaning up the ranges we have and building new ranges to meet the needs of the shooting community is a good thing. And we wouldn’t be adding a new tax. This is a tax we already pay and don’t get back. We’ve already paid the money, let’s see that it gets allocated where we want it.

Don’t be more of an ass than me. Your words, though they are on my blog, are your own. I didn’t write them. If they are stupid, ill considered, or bigoted, it’s your problem.
