So who, exactly, is gun control supposed to keep away from guns?

Randomly shooting into a house where a party is going on is a despicable act.

Police arrested 30-year-old (Suspect) Friday and charged him with seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of shooting into and occupied dwelling. Dorty is accused of shooting into a crowd of about 70 people on Delano Street on Sept. 7, 2010.

Given his felonious past, the suspect appears to be unlikely to have been legally allowed to purchase a firearm. So if gun control isn’t keeping guns away from people like this, who is it keeping them away from?
