Paul Helmke : It's not futile... It's NOT!

In the “don’t go away mad” news for Independence Day, Paul Helmke gives an interview to his home town newspaper. They’re nice to him, but they get some choice quotes from our side.

Dave Workman, senior editor of Gun Week, a publication owned by the Second Amendment Foundation, believes Helmke has been ineffective.

“We have sparred of course with Helmke over the past five years, and quite frankly I’m not as certain as you guys might be that he actually accomplished much,” Workman said in an interview. “It was on his watch that the Supreme Court ruled twice on the Second Amendment, both times affirmatively … that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s rights to keep and bear arms.”

Workman responded: “That’s what we call spin. He can take the tack that he wants to, but quite honestly, the bottom line is the Brady Campaign position failed both times.”

“You get out in the tall grass where a lot more people own firearms, you’re going to collide with the brick wall of reality,” he said about gun legislation. “I don’t think you are going to get very far with a grass-roots approach.

“Helmke probably tried his best to make his case, and his case just didn’t cross the finish line anywhere. We’ve seen the adoption of concealed-carry legislation all over the country. There are four states now where you don’t even need a permit to carry a concealed weapon.”

Despite Helmke’s efforts, Workman said, “the tide’s going the other direction.”

But true to the cause ‘till the end, Paulie engages in a little fantasy blood dancing.

“It’s way too early to tell in terms of her recovery,” Helmke said. “Right now, everyone is optimistic and positive, but it’s a tough recovery. Brain injuries are tough to recover from.

“My dream would be she recovers well enough to get back to the House, and maybe walking with friends on the side gets down to the well of the House, turns around and thanks everyone to applause and says, ‘Why haven’t you done anything about gun violence in this country?’ That alone would transform this debate.

Paul doesn’t even understand that this is roughly the equivalent of a white woman raped by a black in the 50’s South coming out for segregation. It’s blaming the group for the actions of the individual. It’s advocating for the infringement of the rights of the many for the sins of the few.

Yeah, Paulie, don’t go away mad, just go away.
