Now I don’t want to imply that the Garner PD weren’t giving this situation the proper attention. I’m sure that they were dedicating a lot of time and effort already. Now they have detailed 20 police officers to intensively patrolling the neighborhoods during the peak 7am-12noon break in times.
They are even knocking on doors and asking for us to be on the lookout. The police officer that showed up yesterday was very polite, but firm on the point that I should not rush across the street to take a shot at burglars. I told him about the lady in Cary who was writing down the license plate number of a thief and got assaulted. The police officer said that it was ok to shoot them if they attacked me while I was writing down their license plate numbers. He also agreed with my plan to take my dog along if I went outside to get descriptions and such.
Another thing that’s happening is that the neighbors are talking. All the people around me have taken to keeping a lookout for thieves. I might have even convinced a neighbor to get his NC Concealed Handgun Permit. It’s not very useful against this type of crime, but we can always use one more decent citizen out on the street carrying.
So the Garner shooter’s loss is the neighborhood’s gain.

Regarding your "we can always use one more decent citizen out on the street carrying" comment. Are you aware that NC is an open carry state and a CHP is not required to open carry? Check out opencarry.org for more info.
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact, I do know. I just got back from an open carry dinner. Most people need to be eased into open carry. Concealed carry helps with that.
ReplyDeleteSome also like to know they can legally carry in NC without having to get permission in the form of a CHP (permit) from the government.
ReplyDeleteI like the ATF shirt idea.
