You’ve heard the saying, “Don’t make a Federal case out of it,” right? Well apparently no one involved in this guy’s trial did.
So this guy wins a sort of reverse lottery and out of hundreds of possibles he gets selected for Federal charges. But here’s the thing, he’s never been to prison before!
This guy is our problem. We as a State are responsible for him. He was convicted multiple times on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, and we never once sentenced him to prison. Instead we let him slide with probation and endless second chances. And now our burden gets shouldered by the entire country’s taxpayers instead of us taking care of our own problems.
Felon in Possession is a serious crime. Unfortunately it’s not treated seriously here in this state. We need to make a determination as to whether or not we want to take it seriously and punish it seriously. But the one thing we should not do is shirk our responsibilities and force the Federal Government to handle them for us.
This is no more than he deserves, but we could have prevented this crime because he was convicted of four felony counts only 3 months before he committed the crime that landed him in Federal court. Instead of running about robbing people, stealing guns, and leading police in a car chase, he could have been safely secured in one of the State's many finely appointed secure centers for incurably criminal boys.

Don’t be more of an ass than me. Your words, though they are on my blog, are your own. I didn’t write them. If they are stupid, ill considered, or bigoted, it’s your problem.
