Your wallet is not worth your life they tell you. Just give the criminals what they want.
Wow, he must have resisted! Why else would they have shot him?
They shot him because they could. And they’ll do the same to you. Give them what they want? What if they want your life?

The wife took a short Self-defense seminar put on by our town and a local Martial arts Dojo. Interestingly enough one of the first questions he asked was who had experience and/or used firearms for protection, and stated that that was a VERY good option (In Massachusetts? WE'RE WINNING!)
ReplyDeleteStill as the wife was going down the lessons the ONLY one I had a beef with was complying with monetary requests.
Am I willing to kill somebody over the $100 in my wallet? (and the PITA to have my credit cards cancelled and re-issued, as well as all my permits and licenses, as well as police paperwork) Not "No" but "Hell No". But when you are being threatened with deadly force over a personal possession, the item in question is a red herring.
They are threatening to kill you. Giving them money, you wallet, your watch, your car, does NOT remove the threat of violence.
I think I need to do a post on this.
3 Boxes had a post on this a while back that I linked to:
ReplyDelete"Frankly, I’m tired of the “it is only property” argument from the anti-rights cultists.
It isn’t.
It is an invasion of our homes.
It is a disruption of our lives.
It is an assault on the fiber of our society.
It is time we stop saying “it is only property”.
It is time we sent a message to thugs like this who think they can prey on others — Stop."

Since my wallet and my .45 are next to each other, I'll give them something. 3 rounds of 185JHP in center mass should do the trick.
ReplyDelete@Everyone: You are all correct. A demand for money is an implicit threat. The robber has no idea that I'm pulling a gun instead of my wallet. If staring down the barrel doesn't change his mind, well, there's no hope for him.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm threatened with deadly force over a candy bar, I'll react with deadly force... My LIFE is more valuable than anything else, and there is NO expectation that I would not be killed anyway.
ReplyDeleteWow, this story has really grown legs! From here to Weer'd Beard's, to Jay in Mass, to Munchkin Wrangler.
ReplyDeleteHopefully everyone who sees their posts will track back to read this one as well.
And now Say Uncle and Sharp As a Marble have weighed in...
