Why ignorant people should never make law

Your average gun grabber is ignorant about the subject of firearms. Don’t believe me? Last night I set a trap for my favorite gun grabber and she walked right into it. I described my guns the way Paul Helmke would have and this morning got the chance to watch her pee herself. Let’s go to the tape.
Joan would have you believe that since she doesn’t want to bann ALL guns, she isn’t really a gun banner. She just wants to ban some guns. Just the ones that YOU want. I think you might get to keep your single shot .22. A sample

So I thought, let’s see what she really believes. Here’s my comment
You don't want to ban guns.

The experienced gunnies here will see where I was going with this. Here’s her response.
There we have it. Nearly every trope. All she has to do is say something about “the shoulder thing that goes up,” and it’s all complete!

Of course you have trouble, this is because of your lack of understanding.

my "Bolt action rifle capable of penetrating a police officer's vest at 400 yards” is a Remington model 700 BDL chambered in .243 Winchester.

The Remington Model 700 is probably the most common bolt action rifle sold, and the .243 Winchester bullet is the absolute minimum size useable for deer hunting in most states. Topped with a Burris 3x9 scope it is used mostly to shoot woodchucks in my father's back yard. What would you say when your learned that most rifles are much more powerful?

My "plastic framed pistol" is a common Springfield XD in .45ACP.

If you were even slightly aware of how firearms are constructed, you would know that the chances of it making it through a metal detector are nil. Same as every other polymer framed gun.
As for carrying a "loaded, hidden, deadly weapon," I consciously copied the wording that Paul Helmke uses when he whines that there are concealed carriers (like me) out there. Of course I admit to it. It's perfectly legal.

This is why you cannot be taken seriously. When you cannot understand the basics of common firearms. Rifles, almost without exception, will shoot right through a police officer's vest because police vests are designed to stop pistol rounds. Probably half of all pistols sold now are polymer framed. The slide and the barrel are metal, and they are easily seen on X-ray and metal detectors. And loaded, hidden, deadly weapons is your organization's scare phrase to describe lawful concealed carry.

Yes. you want to ban (most) guns and (nearly all) carry.
And that is why the ignorant should not be in charge of policy. Policy should be based on facts and evidence, not feelings.

  1. Very well played, Sean! BRAVO!

Nope she doesn't want to ban ALL guns...just MOST guns, and isn't even the least bit concerned she knows nothing about them.

You generated the Quote of the Day!

  2. Well done Sir, very well done.

With the inclusion of her actions as a perfect example of bigotry, you would have easily made the top anti-gun rebuttal of the year.

As it stands you'll have to settle for still being in the running (I don't think anyone will top it but hey, we have 2 more months).

With her lack of knowledge, understanding and willingness to learn - bigotry is the perfect description.

  3. Baited, hooked, and landed. Very well done, sir.

  4. I applaud you good sir.
She walked right into it. it's almost like hunting over bait. where's the sport in that? :D

  5. Weer'd: she wants to ban ALL guns. Even single-shot .22 lr target rifles, and single shot 12 gauge shotguns, and ban collecting, self defense, marksmanship competition, and that evil blood sport called hunting.

She just doesn't think she can get away with admitting it quite yet.

  6. I'm reminded of those new Nike commercials:

  7. Sean,

You run circles around her logically - outstanding!

  8. Wow. You showed her the wall. You told her it was a wall. You indicated that she should probably avoid it. And you even might have nudged her on a path that would avoid it.

And yet she still walked right into it.

Why am I not surprised she did not post your comment indicating that her forehead now has a decidedly brick-shaped pattern imprinted on it?

It is like the ending of the "Next man makes a move, the [black man] gets it!" skit in Blazing Saddles... Why do we keep winning? Because they are soooo dumb!

And, speaking of, this quote from Japete just blows my mind:

I don't need to know everything there is to know about guns to form my opinions. There ate lots of experts to do that.

... She forms her "opinions" based off the information "experts" feed her - no individual thought, no vetting of the experts (obviously, given that she quantifies anything the Brady Bunch says as coming from "experts", when they are obviously, and repeatedly, anything but), no individual examination of the information... She parrots whatever her masters tell her to, and obeys it unquestionably.

    Rather scary, that.

  9. Yeah I've changed my mind on her. At first I thought she was calculating and dishonest...now I just think she's a liar and an idiot.

How did we let these liars and idiots take our rights in the first place????

  10. Are you much younger than me, Weer'd? I am 40, and I can remember watching the TV news and reading the Los Angeles Tribune every day as a kid. It was the only source of news. If they said you were a wackjob, who were you to disagree? I remember how surprised we were when the California pistol sales ban law failed so badly at the polls. There was always the sense that we weren't totally alone, but certainly isolated. Blogging has changed that in only the last 10 years.

You also have to remember that people like Joan Peterson and Bryan Miller aren't the people driving this any more than Cindy Sheehan was in charge of the anti-war protests. They are convenient figureheads for the real leaders. They exist solely because the can play the "complete moral authority" card. They know nothing but their own pain, and the real leaders exploit them.

  11. Never met a hoplophobe yet that wasn't either ignorant or a liar.

  12. Weer'd said, "Yeah I've changed my mind on her. At first I thought she was calculating and dishonest...now I just think she's a liar and an idiot."

As I have said before, she lacks the mental processes to determine truth from falsity. In this instance I don't think she is lying and isn't an idiot in the usual sense of the word.

I understand that this is hard to believe because what she lacks is such a trivial thing in our collection of mental processes. What is blindly obvious to us is completely beyond her grasp. The basis upon which we make countless, reliable, correct, decisions everyday is something that she only catches a glimmer of when someone is holding her hand and point them out to her. She does not trust reason and evidence to arrive at the "correct" answers. She may even believe, nay know, that reason and evidence are counter productive.

She is not an idiot by the usual definition of the word. To the best of my knowledge we don't have a word or phrase for her type of mental defect. Perhaps Peterson Syndrome could be used...

  13. You heard it here first folks, Peterson Syndrome.

  14. Joe: I suggest reading Julian Jaynes' book, The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind.

This woman is operating in pre-writing/narrative early civilization mode.

Her left brain is absolutely not in charge and not able to apply logic to model possible real world outcomes of actions ... she never learned logic, and does not have that tool in her tool box.

Her subconscious is firmly in the driver's seat, is operating using old time magic rules of Similarity, and her subconscious is probably barking orders at her as a loud head-voice coming from her left ear.

There are lots of folks out there still like this. Some folks can still use logic and function with this kind of Schizophrenia. Some can hide it and function almost normally, but still cause damage because they seem normal.

Some get delusional, self-destructive, or outwardly violent, and end up needing medication.

  15. I think Petersen would fit the profile of a Useful Idiot.

Someone who is easily manipulated to support an ideology.

  16. I have read the book (it IS a great book). But it was about 25 years ago. I should reread it.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

  17. I'd like to point out that Glock adds an ingredient to it's polymer frames to make it show up on x-ray scanners. Whether the other manuf. do so, I can't say.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Huh, I never knew that Glock did that. It makes a certain amount of sense.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What Glock puts in its polymer frames to make them visible on X-ray scanners is steel. Barrels and slides. As pointed out in the original post. The airplane danger hoax was a weak attempt by tiny-minded people to have a place to start when attempting to ban firearms. It failed and we have been blessed with a wide variety of lighter, cheaper, and smaller handguns. Hooray for logic and common sense. Perhaps one day everyone will possess these qualities. Except for the others. There is no hope for them. I had a sociology professor state that only perhaps 20% of the worlds population is capable of abstract thinking. The rest, I surmised, must vote Democrat. I'm not sure she got it.

  20. After watching "Lie To Me" the other night, I come to realize that she has "Change Blindness". She is incapable of seeing the changes.

  21. The right to keep and bear arms is fundamental to a democratic society. Political power comes from the soap box, the jury box, the ballot box, and the ammo box.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is just too good. I had to pass it on. She seems not to be the least bit bothered by her ignorance. Scary !!
