The Supreme Court has struck down any laws that act as a Poll Tax, which is a payment demanded as a precondition to voting. No pay, no vote. It was a “great” way to oppress blacks in the post Reconstruction era in the southern US. That’s “great” as in dirty, low, and disgraceful.
One of the last great “poll taxes” is the fees associated with getting a Concealed Carry license. Here in North Carolina, it costs between $80 and $120 to get the mandatory class, and a further $80 for the license. The required fingerprints cost $10. Basically you have to pay $170-$210 to legally exercise the right to carry a firearm concealed.
Who gets licenses and who doesn’t? Do you think that ability to pay has an effect on who gets to carry? Here’s an article from Houston that asked that very question. A law that affects poor people differently than rich is immoral. The remedy in this case is clear. Repeal the concealed carry law and let everyone carry concealed without a license. If you can’t be trusted with a gun, you can’t be trusted outside a prison.

Don’t be more of an ass than me. Your words, though they are on my blog, are your own. I didn’t write them. If they are stupid, ill considered, or bigoted, it’s your problem.
